Last week I was flooded with feelings of discouragement and frustration – like I couldn’t possibly do ALL God has called me to! Ever been there?

It seems a pretty common place to land by the end of January, doesn’t it? We set out into a new year with renewed vigor and established expectations, only to inevitably slip up somewhere and miss the mark. #Humanness

While that’s where I WAS, it’s not where I find myself now. And if that’s where you’ve found yourself now, be encouraged, friends, as it’s not where you have to stay either!

How’s that, you ask? By remembering this:

“I remember my affliction and my wandering, the bitterness and the gall. I well remember them, and my soul is downcast within me. Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” -Lamentations 3:19-23

While it’s true the new year only comes one day out of 365, our Lord’s compassion is new Every. Single. Day. Great is His Faithfulness!

As I’ve let this truth seep deep into my soul this week, hope is indeed what has settled into my heart.

In my quiet time with God, He’s reminded me HE is in control. He’s charged me to replace my fear and discouragement with faith and grace … To let go of too high expectations, perfection and distractions (such as checking social media too frequently – ouch!), and to instead grab hold of His guidance, His strength and more love.

Lord, rather than remaining in the shame the enemy casts over us each time we miss the mark, I pray You’ll help us to decide to grab hold of the fresh new start we’re given each day with You and remain in Your grace! And when we do, may You fill our soul with hope too as You draw us through the art of letting go and grabbing hold. In Jesus’ name, amen.
