I’m sitting here this slow Saturday, the eve of New Year’s Eve, pondering the steps before me … the places God’s leading our family into for 2018…
As I gaze ahead, I feel as though we’re standing at a precipice, the next step requiring a leap of faith.
Part of me is excited — the thrill of the jump, the new and the bold! … And the other part wants to keep hanging out here, in the safety of the familiar.
“The familiar doesn’t require faith. The UNfamiliar requires UNbridled faith,” whispers God.
…A faith He beckons us all to. A call I want to answer. No. I need to answer.
While I can’t see far, nor know exactly what each step I do see will entail, I am sure of two things:
- I can’t take the steps alone.
Nope. These steps require some stepping buddies — my family … and others not yet revealed to us, but known by God. And a WITH God passport. No lone passengers allowed.
- Each leg of the journey will require us to GROW.
Yep. The people and family we are today, cannot arrive safely at our next destinations “as is”.
Grow — the ONE WORD God keeps whispering to my soul as I peer ahead at those un-taken steps before us…
Grow — a word that, looking forward, attracts and excites this tend to be results driven gal. Yay for progress! … But also a word that, looking back, reveals a not so always welcome passenger — change.
Yes, seasons of growth come with much change. Which often proves to be the most challenging legs of our life, amen? BUT, they’re also the most rewarding. Praise!
So, I look beyond the part of myself that longs to linger in the familiar, out to those destinations that lie just before me, and I choose to purposely place my thoughts amidst the wonder and awe and HOPE that comes with following God where He leads.
May we all leap into our 2018 futures with unbridled faith and WITH God! And may we all, each and every one of us, GROW.
God bless and Happy New Year!
What’s your one word for this year and/or one step you sense God calling you to take?
“And may the Lord make your love for one another and for all people grow and overflow, just as our love for you overflows.” 1 Thessalonians 3:12 (NLT)
