Heavy. Suffocating. Near unbearable. Relentless. All Consuming.

Anxiousness can feel this way and more.

It can haunt like a waking nightmare…
Pursue like a wolf it’s prey…
Engulf like the stormy seas a broken vessel.

But yet … it doesn’t have to.

As I’ve begun the next Proverbs 31 Online Bible study, based on the newest Max Lucado book, Anxious for Nothing, I’m ever so grateful to be reminded that anxiousness can be lifted. Made weightless. Forgotten. Laid bare of it’s power. Like Max Lucado writes in Chapter 1:

“The presence of anxiety is unavoidable, but the prison of anxiety is optional.”

Optional.

It doesn’t always feel optional, does it? So how do we choose not to be imprisoned by our anxiousness?

The answer put simply? With God.

I know. For most, this is not new knowledge. For me either. But sometimes, in the midst of walking out all our crazy in this life, we need that reminder, don’t we?

I do.

I need the reminder of “with God” when the dawn of a new day beckons my eyes to open, but the darkness of my circumstances taunt my heart to shut.

I need the “with God” reminder when the tears puddle as my daughter asks, yet again, when she’ll get to have siblings, but the process of pursuing a foster license seems to tick on endlessly.

I need that reminder, “with God”, when the hopes and dreams of my future beckon me into action, but the weight of that day’s anxious thoughts render me motionless, too heavy to budge from my comfy couch.

What do you need the reminder for? In case you could use reminded of some “with God” benefits, here’s a list from Max from #AnxiousForNothing…

With God as our helper, we will:

  • Sleep better
  • Smile more
  • Re-frame the way we face our fears
  • Learn how to talk ourselves of the ledge
  • View bad news through the lens of sovereignty
  • Discern the lies of Satan
  • Tell ourselves the truth
  • Discover a life that’s characterized by calm
  • Develop tools for facing onslaughts of anxiety

Which of these do you earnestly need?

The absolutely astounding thing here is that, with God, not only is one of these possible. With Him, all of them are possible! ALL of these can be our new reality, beyond the prison of any anxiousness. With God, we truly can be anxious for nothing.
