What do the pages of your books look like after you’ve completed reading a chapter for a study? Perhaps they look a little something like this:
Or maybe that’s not you. Maybe you can’t bear to mark up your books and so you journal to make record of the things that stand out to you. That’s great too!
But whether you mark up your book pages, or you journal, or both, isn’t the key. The key is, what do you do with it all afterwards? How do you take those ‘important to you’ messages and translate them into more than just a ‘set apart’ quote that you loved? How do you get more out of these words that inspired you so that they stay firmly inscribed upon your heart long after the study has come to an end?
Tip 3 for getting more out of your Bible/book studies is to: let the inspiring words of others inspire you to go deeper into God’s Word.
Ready to learn how?
We begin by choosing our favorite quotes from a chapter. You know, those ones that make our heart leap. And then we ask ourselves three simple questions:
#1: Why does this quote stand out to me?
#2: In one word, what is the main topic of this quote?
#3: What does God’s Word have to say about this topic/word?
Here’s two simple steps to help us answer #3:
#3a: Do a search for scriptures containing and/or about the topic/word.
#3b: Look them up, read them, mark them, and write down the ones that speak to your heart, along with how God spoke to you and/or what He taught you. You can even personalize the verses with your name, me, I, etc.
In taking the steps to go deeper with Him, the goal is not to hurry through them, checking them off like a to-do list. The goal is to truly slow down and spend some time letting the Spirit guide us along the way to a message God has for our heart.
When we take the time to go to God’s Word when inspired by others words, then He will reveal His treasures lay hidden there, opening our hearts to the deeper insights He has waiting for us!
Will you give it a try? Deeper insight into God’s treasures of truth are waiting for YOU!!
“…if you accept my words, and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God. For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” -Proverbs 2:1-6
Praying these take you deeper than you’ve ever been before and that the result is more of God’s Truth written on the pages of your heart!
